The Children Carried On: A Journey of Trauma, Displacement, and Resilience by Tannagh Pfotenhauer
In her book The Children Carried On, Tannagh Pfotenhauer tells the stories of three refugee children who have fled their homes in Syria and Afghanistan and are now living in a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos. Through their stories, Pfotenhauer explores the impact of trauma and displacement on children, and the resilience and hope that they can find even in the most difficult circumstances.

The first child Pfotenhauer introduces us to is 12-year-old Hala. Hala fled Syria with her family after her home was destroyed in a bombing. She has witnessed violence and death firsthand, and she struggles to sleep and concentrate. She is also worried about her family, who are still in Syria.
The second child Pfotenhauer tells us about is 10-year-old Omar. Omar fled Afghanistan with his family after his father was killed by the Taliban. Omar has nightmares about his father's death, and he is afraid of the future. He is also struggling to adjust to life in a new country.
The third child Pfotenhauer follows is 9-year-old Fatima. Fatima fled Syria with her mother and siblings after their village was attacked. Fatima's mother is struggling to provide for her children, and Fatima is worried about her family's future. She is also struggling to cope with the loss of her home and her friends.
Pfotenhauer's book is a powerful and moving account of the experiences of refugee children. Through the stories of Hala, Omar, and Fatima, Pfotenhauer shows us the impact of trauma and displacement on children, and the resilience and hope that they can find even in the most difficult circumstances.
The Children Carried On is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the refugee crisis and its impact on children. Pfotenhauer's book is a testament to the strength and resilience of refugee children, and it is a reminder that we must all do more to help them.
Author's Note
I wrote The Children Carried On because I believe that the stories of refugee children need to be heard. These children have experienced unimaginable trauma, and they deserve to have their stories told. I hope that my book will help to raise awareness of the refugee crisis and its impact on children, and that it will inspire people to take action to help these children.
