The Story

Northanger Abbey tells the story of Catherine Morland, a young woman who is invited to stay with her wealthy relatives at Northanger Abbey. Catherine is a naive and imaginative girl, and she quickly becomes engrossed in the Gothic atmosphere of the abbey. She believes that the abbey is haunted, and she begins to suspect that her host, General Tilney, is a murderer.

As Catherine's imagination runs wild, she begins to see danger everywhere she looks. She is convinced that the General is trying to kill her, and she even believes that she sees the ghost of his murdered wife.

However, Catherine's fears are unfounded. The General is not a murderer, and the abbey is not haunted. Catherine's imagination has simply gotten the better of her.
