Henry Williamson was a prolific English author, best known for his nature writing and novels set in the countryside of Devon and Cornwall. His most famous works include Tarka the Otter and Salar the Salmon, which have become classics of their genre.

Williamson was a passionate walker, and he often explored the coasts of North and South Devon and Cornwall on foot. His walks provided him with inspiration for his writing, and many of the landscapes and seascapes he encountered can be found in his books.

In this article, we will follow in Williamson's footsteps on some of his coastal walks. We will explore the same landscapes and seascapes that inspired him, and we will learn more about his life and work.

Day 1: Hartland Point to Bude

Our first day's walk will take us from Hartland Point, the most westerly point in Devon, to Bude, a popular surfing destination. The walk follows the South West Coast Path, a long-distance footpath that runs around the entire coastline of Devon and Cornwall.

The walk is relatively easy, and it offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline. Along the way, we will pass by some of Williamson's favorite haunts, including the village of Clovelly and the ruins of Tintagel Castle.

Day 2: Bude to Widemouth Bay

On our second day, we will continue our walk along the South West Coast Path from Bude to Widemouth Bay. This section of the path is a little more challenging, but it is still manageable for most walkers.

The walk takes us past some of the most dramatic scenery on the north coast of Cornwall. We will see towering cliffs, secluded coves, and sandy beaches. We will also pass by the village of Port Isaac, which was used as the setting for the popular TV series Doc Martin.

Day 3: Widemouth Bay to Padstow

On our third and final day, we will walk from Widemouth Bay to Padstow, a picturesque harbor town on the Camel Estuary. This section of the path is relatively flat, and it offers stunning views of the Camel Estuary and the surrounding countryside.

Along the way, we will pass by the village of St. Mawgan, where Williamson lived for many years. We will also see the ruins of Lanhydrock House, a grand Victorian mansion that is now open to the public.

Our three-day walk has taken us through some of the most beautiful scenery in Devon and Cornwall. We have followed in the footsteps of Henry Williamson, and we have learned more about his life and work. We hope that this article has inspired you to explore the coasts of Devon and Cornwall for yourself.
