Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Jet Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Between the ages of 21 and 30 at the time of application
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Native English speaker or equivalent fluency
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to a new culture and work in a team environment

The Application Process

The Jet Program application process Typically opens in October or November and consists of three stages:

Stage 1: Online Application

  • Submit your resume, cover letter, and supporting documents online
  • Complete an online questionnaire assessing your motivation and qualifications

Stage 2: Semi-Finals

  • If shortlisted, participate in a semi-final interview and provide a teaching demonstration
  • Discuss your application and demonstrate your teaching skills

Stage 3: Interview and Placement

  • Finalists are invited to an in-person interview with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate
  • Interviews focus on your cultural awareness, motivation, and teaching philosophy
  • Based on your interview, you will be placed in a local government board of education in Japan

Life as a Jet Participant

As a Jet Program participant, you will live and work in a local community in Japan, typically for a period of one to five years. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching English in elementary, junior high, or high schools
  • Supporting English language activities and clubs
  • Participating in cultural and community events
  • Acting as an ambassador for your home country

In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you will receive support from the local board of education and the Jet Program community. You will have access to professional development opportunities, cultural workshops, and social events that will enhance your experience and personal growth.
