Surrealist Photography

In the 1920s, Duchemin became involved with the surrealist movement. Surrealism was an avant-garde artistic movement that sought to explore the subconscious mind through art. Duchemin was drawn to surrealism because of its emphasis on the irrational and the unconscious.

Duchemin's surrealist photographs are characterized by their haunting and dreamlike quality. He often used multiple exposures, photomontage, and other techniques to create images that defied the laws of reality. His photographs often feature strange and unsettling juxtapositions of objects, such as a woman's face superimposed on a landscape or a group of people floating in mid-air.
