Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Vande Bharat Express train at New Delhi Railway Station on Thursday. The train will run between New Delhi and Varanasi, a distance of 760 kilometers, in just eight hours.
The Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed train that has been designed and manufactured in India. The train has a number of features that make it more comfortable and convenient for passengers, including air-conditioned coaches, reclining seats, and free Wi-Fi.
The inauguration of the Vande Bharat Express train is a major milestone for Indian Railways. The train is expected to revolutionize train travel in India and make it more accessible and affordable for people across the country.
India's GDP grew by 7.5% in the first quarter of 2024, according to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (CSO). This is higher than the 6.8% growth rate recorded in the previous quarter.
The growth in the first quarter was driven by strong performance in the manufacturing, construction, and services sectors. The agricultural sector also grew, but at a slower pace than the other sectors.
The CSO said that the Indian economy is expected to grow by 7.4% in the current fiscal year. This is higher than the 7.2% growth rate estimated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The petitioners had argued that the CAA was discriminatory and violative of the Constitution.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India UU Lalit, said that the petitioners had not been able to show any grounds for the challenge. The court also said that the CAA was a matter of policy and that it was up to the government to decide on the issue.
The CAA, which was passed by Parliament in December 2019, grants citizenship to illegal immigrants from six minority communities from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who have entered India before December 31, 2014.

- Russia and Ukraine agree to a ceasefire
- US and China agree to resume trade talks
- North Korea fires ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan
Russian and Ukrainian officials signed a ceasefire agreement in Minsk on Thursday. The agreement calls for a full cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of all heavy weapons from the front lines.
The ceasefire is a major breakthrough in the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine. The conflict has been going on for eight years and has claimed the lives of more than 14,000 people.
The ceasefire agreement is a welcome development, but it remains to be seen whether it will hold. There have been several ceasefires in the past, but all of them have been violated.
US and Chinese officials agreed to resume trade talks in a phone call on Thursday. The talks had been stalled for months, but the two sides agreed to meet in person in the coming weeks.
The US and China are the world's two largest economies, and their trade relationship is one of the most important in the world. The two sides have been engaged in a trade war for the past year, which has led to tariffs on billions of dollars of goods.
The resumption of trade talks is a positive development, but it is unclear whether the two sides will be able to reach a deal. The US and China have very different views on trade, and it will be difficult to find a compromise that satisfies both sides.
North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Thursday. The missiles were launched from the country's east coast and flew about 500 kilometers before landing in the sea.
The launch is the latest in a series of missile tests by North Korea. The country has fired more than 30 missiles this year, including several that have flown over Japan.
The missile tests are a major concern for the international community. North Korea is believed to be developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles that could reach the United States.
